Here is another Instagram plant trend. Fiddle Leaf Figs have attracted many lovers due to their vibrant green leaves with prominent veining and fast growth rate. When happy, they can outgrow many households if indoors. Outdoors, they can grow up to 60 feet.
Also known as Ficus Lyrata, they are native to Cameroon, Africa. Growing in tropical forests made them used to hot, humid and bright environments.
Lighting: Bright, indirect sunlight. Their leaves cells need lots of sunlight for food production.
Watering: Only add water when the soils dries out.
Temperature: Fiddle-leaf figs don’t like extreme temperature fluctuations and they prefer warm rooms.
Best spot: When indoors, they will thrive closer to windows where they can get lots of indirect sunlight.
Pet Friendly? No.
Child Friendly? No. As for pets, it can be highly toxic if ingested. Harmless to adults.
PRO TIP: Rotate your plant once a month to keep it standing straight and tall. It likes to reach towards the light, so if you don’t rotate you’ll notice them bending over time.
